Cheon Gyeong-ja won the Presidential Award at the Korea Art Association Exhibition in 1955 and has an impressive list of accolades, including the Order of Cultural Merit, the National Academy of Arts Award, the March 1st Culture Award, the Seoul Cultural Award, and the May Literary Award.
This exhibition explores the lives and art of female artists who endured the tumultuous times from the Japanese colonial period to the democratization movement through the works of Cheon Gyeong-ja and 22 contemporary female artists, while also shedding light on Cheon’s modern way of thinking and the trends in Eastern painting during that era.
